Getting Rid of the Last of the Old Yuck
Yes...the bathroom. It was so nasty, we did not even want to take before photos! (Actually, we forgot, probably subconsciously on purpose as not to have to remember) Sometime in the 70's we guess, the former owners did a cheap update with poor quality materials. There was a huge sink, on a cabinet with louver doors. There was a wall between the toilet and sink, making the room feel more small and cramped than it already was. The shower....(shudder)...there was so much scum, staining, it make the room stink. James tore out the walls in the shower, replaced the sheetrock. He tore out the sink and plumbing completly. We tore out all the crappy wallboard that went all the way around the room, and into the shower.

During construction
After tearing down all the old wallboard, James began installing the new stuff. The sheetrock in the shower is of the mold resistant/waterproof variety. He painted the walls where I had removed the old wallpaper. We ripped out all the door and window molding. Hanging the new tileboard was quite a challenge. At first, we were going to use the tileboard in the shower, but it was so hard to hang. James opted instead to buy a shower surround kit, and we realised that is what we should have done from the start. James repaired the hole where the old exhaust fan was. He reworked all the sink plumbing, putting shut off valves in the bathroom and putting in a new drain.

The new Sink and Shower!
Here is what it looks like now. We have the shower walls up, a temporary shower curtain (until I find something funky!) and the sink in place. Eventually, the window wall will be smoothed over and painted. There will be a large white cabinet over the toilet; white with frosted glass doors. The tiled wallboard will go behind the toilet.
Eventually, we will decide what to do with the floor. It will probably get a new layer of linoleum. When that happens, we will replace the toilet. We will install molding around the ceiling, as well as where the wallboard meets the wall.

Here is a link that leads you to a post I made at Ikeafans Forums. It is a quick overview of our whole kitchen redo.

I can't believe it used to look look that. No....wait.....yes, yes I can.
The oven and the stainless steel counter are next, more updates when they are complete!

Cabinets are Up!
James worked his butt off this weekend, and installed all the wall and the base cabinets.
The oven will go in the large opening in the base cabinet next to the fridge.
All that is left now, is the wiring for the oven, and the finishing touches like window moulding and wall organizers.
For a quick before and after, go see the April archived posts in this blog.
